Annual General Meeting
CARA’s AGM saw a revitalised interest in those willing to be on the Management Committee and the election of Rod Ritchie as the new President, Helen McGregor as the Secretary, and Dennis Pitman as Treasurer. Joining these three as part of the new Management Committee are Paul Summers, Clytie Glass and Alan Hodgkinson,

The past year’s highlights included well-attended meetings on the Cooroy Broiler Farm DA in August and the Meet The Candidates event in October. You can read the full report for the previous year HERE.

Cr Tony Wellington was invited to talk on how the new Noosa Council was going getting itself back into gear and about some of the teething problems, including the telephone system and getting their DA system online. Interestingly, Tony noted that councillor votes on important matters have been unanimous to date, and that there is a genuine desire amongst councillors and staff to make decisions which will benefit the majority of local residents.

The new President, Rod Ritchie provided and overview of some of the initiatives he thought CARA may be able to implement, including the upgrading of the CARA web site, researching membership for identification of skills and capabilities, holding open meetings and working for  greater protection and utilisation of local reserve areas.

It is fair to say that there is lots of optimism about the future of CARA as an important resident group that cares about the future of Cooroy and district.

Next general meeting is scheduled for Thursday 20 March 2014 where Cr Sandy Bolton has accepted an invitation to speak about her experiences on the new Council and her thoughts on making sure the hinterland remains a dynamic place to live and is well considered when planning decisions are being made.
